PhD positions in telecommunication
Join our team to conduct groundbreaking research in network science and AI for tackling open challenges in telecommunication networks!
NExTWORKx is the strategic partnership between TU Delft and KPN, a leading Telecom and ICT service provider in the Netherlands. NExTWORKx aims to develop new concepts and technology in telecommunication and artificial intelligence, to respond to new disruptive technologies and to continue the development of talent.
The project explained
NExTWORKx enters research Phase II with a focus on developing and applying concepts from network science to model the huge number of real-time interactions between software components and data sets and to enable monitoring and control. AI-based algorithms will be developed for monitoring in ation flows and smart contracts. A trusted layer for monitoring and control is crucial for every network and digital infrastructure individually, but also across critical infrastructures, data sharing and smart city platforms.
PhD positions
- You will be mentored by both TU Delft and KPN staff.
- The 4 PhD projects contribute to the above goals, but each with a different focus.
- Our four exciting PhD positions give you an unparalleled opportunity to conduct groundbreaking, in-depth research geared to practical applications, all in close collaboration with KPN.

"One of the highlights of being a PhD candidate within the NExTWORKx Phase I project, was that I was able to collaborate with experts both within TU Delft and KPN. Addressing research questions that are close to my interests but also relevant and insightful to the industry has always been a big motivation throughout my PhD journey and guided me towards a fulfilling career path. The always pleasant and supportive environment in the NAS group helped me perform at my best, learn a lot, and enjoy my PhD journey. Moreover, it was very valuable to my journey that I could connect, collaborate, and exchange information with other experts and PhD students within both the NAS group and the NExTWORKx project."

"Working towards my PhD in the NExTWORKx project has been nothing but a journey of growth for me, both intellectually and personally. Diving deep into the Network Science field has made me enthusiastic about networks and their fascinating properties. Working closely with leading professors in the field has improved my quantitative research skills and my ability to quickly dissect complex problems. Collaborating with KPN, an industry partner, allowed me to develop my ability to translate research results into actionable business insights. In my case, it even led to the next step in my career, as I am now working on an advanced reinforcement learning algorithm for next-best actions in BTL marketing at KPN, where I still leverage these skills daily."
